There is one particular reason that I believe sets me apart from other attorneys. I believe everyone is great at something. Since as far back as I can remember I have been great at connecting with or relating to people in all settings. Maybe it's because I understand hardship and struggle. Maybe it's because I have overcome hardship and struggle and enjoyed success. Whatever it is, this ability to connect has led me to being passionate in wanting to help people from all walks of life. From general counsel or claims adjusters for some of the biggest companies to people who maybe can't afford but need legal counsel, I have always wanted to help my clients get the best or desired result. This passion has allowed me to create relationships with clients who both like AND trust me (not exactly common feelings toward attorneys (insert lawyer joke here). What motivates this passion in me? My family plays the most important role in driving me to be a successful attorney. I want to be the best man I can be for my wife and I want to be a good example for my two boys as they grow up to become men.

Now for the boring part, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Evansville where I played Division I baseball. I attended and received my J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale, Illinois. During law school, I interned with the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's office in Evansville, Indiana. I was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 2001 and began practicing law in Evansville, Indiana focusing primarily on labor and employment law while dabbling in other areas such as collections and family law.

I somewhat insanely took another bar exam in 2002 being admitted to the Illinois Bar in the same year (also the same year I met my wife). In 2003, I moved to the Chicago area to expand my horizons. My practice pretty much concentrated on the defense of all things for some pretty big clients including product liability (elevators, escalators, HVAC), premises liability, and transportation related claims including those arising out of auto and tractor-trailer accidents. I also gained valuable experience in commercial and appellate litigation.

I am technically a general practice attorney. I am a good litigator and that is where the greater part of my experience lies. I am passionate about the law and in particular estate planning but, as you can see from my website, I don't limit myself to the areas of litigation or estate planning.

So what brings me to Washington, Pennsylvania? I still sometimes wonder how I got here. After the arrival of our two sons (Owen in 2010 and Declan in 2012), my wife and I re-evaluated our priorities and where we wanted to raise our boys. My wife is Marissa (Brownlee) Clancy for the locals who are interested. The small town of Washington, where she grew up, seemed like the perfect place. I have found that I love practicing law in this area. I love the small town, the community, and the people. I gained admission to the Pennsylvania Bar in 2012 and the West Virginia Bar in 2013. On January 13, 2014, The Law Office of Brett A. Clancy opened its doors.

Why Choose Me?

The following are what I believe clients deserve and what clients want from their attorney:

Communicative and Responsive

Above all else, I think clients want to be heard. I will listen. To get the best result possible result, it is vital for me to understand what you want which cannot be done unless I listen to what you have to say. Also, It may not always be possible to get the result you want and I know that clients understand that. What is possible is to be kept in the loop. It is my goal to be responsive. Good news or bad I will keep you apprised of your case and respond to your calls or emails the same day, if not, within 24 hours.

Realistic and Common Sense Approach

I am not going to just tell you what you want to hear just to get your business. Common sense has served me well in life and there is no reason not to employ it in my practice. My experience has allowed me to develop into an attorney that can realistically and accurately evaluate your specific legal needs. I will provide you thoughtful, well-reasoned legal advice that will include various options and I will do so in a way you will understand so you can make an informed decision. Rather than recommending the option that makes me the most money, I will recommend the best course of action for you.

Passionate

I made quite the leap of faith when I went into practice for myself. Part of the reason I made the decision was because of my passion for the profession. Having a passion for my profession makes me a more effective advocate. I enjoy helping and advising people and businesses alike. To me, every client is an important client and I am confident that you will feel and experience that passion when working with me.

Reasonable and Flexible Rates

I am not sure I have ever met anyone that actually wants to give their money to an attorney. Understanding that hiring an attorney can be an expensive endeavor, as a solo practitioner, I am able to be flexible with the fees that I charge. Whether you are a business with a specific amount budgeted for legal fees or an individual who cannot necessarily afford to hire the big law firms, I will provide you with multiple payment options including straight hourly rate (with reduced rates for non-legal work related to your case and travel time), retainer, flat fee (for the entire matter or in stages) or contingency.
